Prunus domestica seed oil
Lipsticks, moisturising and shaving creams, massage oil, anti-wrinkle formulas...Plum kernel oil is now used in many cosmetic formulations.
Perles De Gascogne manufactures cosmetic ingredients extracted from plum kernels for the cosmetic industry. This includes virgin plum kernel oil , micronized plum shell granules (used as scrub) and plum pit absolute (an aroma extracted from plum kernel meal and used in the perfumery industry) . Virgin plum kernel oil (INCI name: Prunus domestica seed oil) is pressed from pits inside kernels of plums cultivated and harvested around Agen, South West France.
Plum oil for a cure
Virgin Plum kernel oil is fluid at ambient temperature and has a typical golden colour. It has a complex and rich fragrance with a very fruity top note and a heart note made of almonds, marzipan hints. The feeling on the skin is very soft and plum oil penetrates the skin easily with no greasy residue. Cosmetic companies capitalise on the positive image of the plum as a natural fruit and exploit its agreeable fragrance and emollient, antioxidant properties.
Used in lip balms formulas , plum oil re-hydrate lips and add suppleness and volume. In moisturizing creams, its emollient properties bring nourishment and hydration to damaged skins . Beneficial for dry and mature skin types, its high amount of oleic (68%) and linoleic (23%) acid renews the complexion and maintains healthy cells.
Plum kernel oil is rich in anti-oxidants, unsaturated fatty acid and vitamin E which plays a key role in preventing collagen deterioration and in stimulating skin healing.
